Charleston HOA rules concerning solar panels

-Installation of solar panels shall only be permitted on the rear roof of the home and must not extend past the roofline.

-Panels and equipment must be flush-mounted and should be darker in color to match the existing roof requirement.

-The installation of solar panels must obtain any permit requirements and be installed according to all city, state, and federal codes.

-Installation shall only be permitted if the rooftop is not directly visible from the public right-of-way (along South 9th St and Albany Street).

-Ground mounted solar panels are prohibited.

These regulations are not intended to dissuade the installation of solar panels, rather they are meant to maintain property values and protect the aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood.
